After taking over the arm-band of captaincy, Maxime van Pee takes center stage in the heat during the fifth round of the National Motocross Championship in Garuga this weekend.


The meet due at Garuga racing track on Sunday also doubles as a preparation for the Africa Championship due in Zimbabwe next month.

Van Pee who took over as Team Uganda MX captain from 10-time national champion Arthur Blick, will have his hands full as he takes on a field of riders eager to earn selection in the national team.

Besides the local opposition, Van Pee will have a challenge of taming his Kenyan arch-rival Ivan Guya who will be a guest rider of the day in what is anticipated to be an exciting championship.

Guya, Kenya’s fastest rider of the moment beat Maxime in the regional meet in Nairobi before the Ugandan in the last leg in Kampala.

“It is going to be a good race and I’m quite well prepared for it,” Van Pee said of the meet.

“The competition will be tough but I have confi dence that I can make it because I feel well on the bike,” added he added.

Van Pee admits that the weight of responsibility is enormous but is prepared the carry on the tusk in Zimbabwe.

“It is a big responsibility to feel in the big shoes of (Arthur) Blick. But I am ready to lead from the front,” he said.
