The Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has expressed concern over conflicts between police and other political opponents, stressing that it is likely to affect the peace of the country.

Addressing Buganda Lukiiko (Parliament) at Bulange Mengo yesterday, Mayiga said for the last few days, many Ugandans have been on tension over the prevailing events.

"There has been some impasse between Police and some key political players, which created tension among many Ugandans," he said.

He noted that opponents must listen too, and respect each other, stressing that in case of failure to reach an amicable solution, the contest must be taken to the courts of law.

"As different people or groups of people vying for political positions, we need to uphold the rule of law. Then courts’ verdicts must be adhered to and implemented," he added.

He reiterated that both sides must know that Ugandans yearn for peace above everything else. "We are therefore obliged to observe peace".

Speaking at the same event, Mayiga said that Buganda still has many things to do and advised people to work hard.

"I am still going on with Etofari. The question should not be why I am still collecting this money. People should focus on what it has done," he said.
