Museveni appoints army General Court Martial

UPDF Chairman of the High Command, General Yoweri Kagutu Museveni, has appointed members of the UPDF General Court-Martial following the expiry of the last instrument in June 2015.

The Chairman of the High Command of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), General Yoweri Kagutu Museveni, has appointed members of the UPDF General Court-Martial following the expiry of the last instrument in June 2015.  


Maj Gen Levi Karuhanga has been reappointed Chairman of the Court-martial. The appointed court members are Lt Col Jasper Abeka, Maj Dans Kamugira, Maj David Ochitti Kidega, Maj Livingstone Musiime, Capt Stella Kalungi and WO I Mijumbi George.

The Comamnder -in-Chief also appointed reserve members of the court. They are Col N. Begumisa, Maj Jane Mukasa, Capt RK Mwesigye, Capt Owinyi Akena, and Sgt Stephen Okello. Lt Col Gideon Katinda was appointed the judge advocate and Maj Ronald Iduli the defence counsel, whereas Maj John Bizimana is the secretary to the court.

Others appointed in the court are Maj Fredrick Kangwamu who is the lead prosecutor with Maj Moses Buwaso and Lt Ambrose Baguma being the alternate prosecutor.

General Court-Martial (GCM) is one of the four courts in the UPDF legal system. Other Courts are the Court-martial Appeal Court (CMAC), Division Court-martial (DCM) and Unit Disciplinary Committee (UDC). The Members of the CMAC, GCM and DCM are appointed by the Chairman High Command, whereas the UDC is appointed by the Camp Commandant of UPDF General Headquarter. GCM, DCM and UDC members serve for one year, whereas CMAC has no specified limit of time.
