Malawi Football Federation has invited the Uganda national football team for a friendly to celebrate their 51st independence from the British in Lilongwe.

Uganda National football team head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic confirmed the friendly and said that he will use it to give upcoming Uganda Cranes and the U-23 national team players a chance to gain more playing time to boost their confidence.

The friendly will follow Uganda Cranes first round return leg of the Africa Nations Championship qualifier against Tanzania in Kampala on July 4.

Uganda comfortably won the first leg 3-0 and given Micho’s explanations at the weekly FUFA press conference on Wednesday, his focus is on the last round fixture against Sudan and the U-23 Africa Youth Championship qualifier with Egypt away on July 18.

“We have no right to think that with 3-0 win over Tanzania, we can afford to relax in the return leg. But we are looking at a bigger picture against Egypt in the Africa U-23 qualifier. Egypt is a more competitive team. We need to boost with Khalid Aucho and Luwagga Kizito and home the likes of Salim Jamal, Yunus Sentamu and Richard Kasagga will also join the team,” Micho said.

A combination of both Uganda Cranes home-based and the Kobs’ players regroup for training on Friday after a weeklong break since their return from Zanzibar.

The Malawi Flames hope to use the game as one of their tune ups for their 2017 Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Swaziland in September and also as part of the activities to commemorate their independence day.
