Govt Spokesperson Col. Bantariza arrested

Col. Shaban Bantariza, Deputy Executive Director Uganda Media Centre has been arrested over mismanagement at the National Leadership Institute (NALI), Kyankwanzi where he was the director between 2007 and 2009.  Picked Monday night, he remains detained at the Senior Officers’ Mess on Acacia Road in Kololo suburbs.

Bantariza was suspended from NALI in 2011, after President Yoweri Museveni instituted an inquiry into his alleged misconduct at the Institute. The probe team was headed by Brig Moses Rwakitarate then chief of staff of the Uganda Air Force.

The army Spokesperson, Lt. Col Paddy Ankunda has since said that the investigating teams including the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) has proved that Col. Bantariza has questions to answer regarding accusations of abuse of office.

 Military sources said Bantariza will face the General Court Martial   although Akunda said “the report from the probe team will guide our legal team on what charges to refer.”

Col Bantariza was known for his eloquence  has since his appointment  been a regular on Radio talk shows when he  has defended government on controversial issues including the recent media interviews  by Gen David  Sejusa   Tinyefuza.
