UNDERWRITERS are some of those professionals who are known to hardly go out, wine and dine. Many times, they are calculating risk of their clients and how to mitigate it.

But this norm was broken last Thursday when they gathered at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Lion Assurance, together with five other insurance firms, converged to witness the birth of a new baby in the insurance industry - Kungula Agrinsurance.

Like any celebration of a new-born, the evening was full of merry-making.

There were performances from guitarist Myco Ouma, pianist Steven Keyz and Alina Talents Uganda, a drama group.

The evening started with a cocktail and trust underwriters; they kept time, something that is not followed to the letter at many events.

The event’s emcee, Roger Mugisha, was on top of his game with humour that would have made even the best stand-up comics envious.

At one moment, Mugisha suggested that the hotel waitresses opens two doors for the big Kungula cake to be delivered to the hall. “Open the doors; break a piece of the wall so that we can have the cake in,” he said.

But it was Ouma who stole the night, together with pianist Keyz. Looking casual with his trademark cap and acoustic guitar, Ouma took guests through a 30-minute musical journey.

Ouma performed a cover of Bob Marley’s No Noman No Cry and Water Runs Dry by Boy II Men – as if to symbolise that insurance firms have become men enough to charter unchartered waters.

He also performed Michael Jackson’s Human Nature, Jose Chameleone’s Valu Valu guitar tunes, Flashback his signature track, among others.

When they played P-Square and Akon’s Chop Ma Money, emcee Mugisha could not hold back the excitement and decided to join in and mimed some of the songs so much for emceeing, huh?

But the crowd was impressed by the trio’s performance. All in all, Lion Assurance, aBi Trust and their six partners got their money’s worth from the entertainers.
