Two men who brutally killed their brother over a family land boundary dispute have been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.


Alex Chemutai, 25 and Martin Chekurui, 28, killed Moses Takar (36) in cold blood after they set on him with panga, amputating off his arms from his body. The incident occurred on March 30, 2012, Binyiny, in Kween district.

High Court judge Justice Henry Kaweesi convicted the two after the duo admitted the charges of murder.

In his ruling the judge observed that while the convicts sounded apologetic, “You killed your brother in a savage manner over trivial family dispute that you could settle amicably.”

The convict will serve the sentence at Maluku government prison in Mbale.

Prosecution led by Senior Resident State Attorney Ann Namatovu stated that on the fateful night, the convicts set for the deceased’s home armed with pangs.

On arrival in his court yard, the two called out the victim by his name, saying they had a small business to discuss with him.

However, as soon as the deceased emerged from his house to meet them, the two attacked immediately attacked him with pangas, including a deep cut in the neck. The victim died as he was being rushed to Kapchorwa hospital.

A post motem report by the police surgeon attached on the case file stated that the deceased died of multiple deep cuts visited on him with sharp objects.

Upon committing the crime, the convicts briefly went into hiding, but later handed over themselves to Kapchorwa central police station.

Particulars of the charge stated that that the convicts armed with panga attacked their victim from his home.

When they reached his court they called him by his name to come out so that they could discuss on a few issues.

A post motem report by the police surgeon Dr Barnabus Rubanza, observed that the victim died of multiple wounds inflicted on him by sharp object.
