Gladys Kalibbala a journalist at the New Vision was Friday recognized for her weekly column in Saturday Vision, ‘Lost Children’ that has helped many children reunite with their families.

She received the award for the second year running in the media category for providing a forum for the helpless children who are always stranded at police stations, streets and babies homes.

This was during the 2013 Tumaini Awards Gala at the Hotel Africana in Kampala where a total of 16 organizations and individuals were awarded for their role in fighting child rights abuse.

Stella Ayo Adong, the chairperson Tumaini said that this year’s awards are going to those individuals and organizations that have worked in line with the African Union theme for the Day of the African Child; ‘Eliminating Harmful Social and Cultural practices affecting children.

Robert Kabushenga, the CEO Vision Group called on Civil Society Organizations to be more practical and creative as they carry out their advocacy work in order to achieve results.

Chief Justice Benjamin Odoki, the chief guest at the awards reaffirmed the commitment of the Judiciary to ensure children receive justice.

“Custom is not a defence for any crime and if one is arrested they will be prosecuted and charged as the law stipulates.” Odoki said.

The other award winners were Raising Voices, Standard Chartered Bank,Uganda Youth Development Link,Amani Initiatives,Reproductive Education and Community Health Program among others.
