A Chinese suspected to be a paedophile Wednesday fainted in court as his trial kicked off in Kampala High Court.

Yang Zhengjun alias Yang Wang collapsed after the trial Judge, Albert Frank Rugadya, read charges against him and ordered a Ugandan Chinese interpreter, Galvis Turyagyenda, to take oath.

Yang Zhengjun alias Yang Wang and his co-accused Faith Orlando are on trial for aggravated trafficking in children and aggravated defilement.

As the interpreter was explaining his academic qualifications to the court, Zhengjun touched his fore head as though carrying a huge load and collapsed moments later.

The wife of the Chinese burst out crying, prompting the judge to order policemen to throw her out.

Gulu Police surgeon, Charles Madrama, who was in court as one of the prosecution witnesses, examined him and informed court that his blood pressure had shot up possibly due to fear.

He said the suspect needed to get bed rest before his trial can start. In the circumstances, the trial judge remanded the suspect until June 20.

The judge also warned the suspects against trying to bribe Principal State Attorney Susan Okalany and the state interpreter. The judge revealed that he had received information that the suspects attempted to bribe the State Attorney and the interpreter.
