The Chinese Government has constructed a sh40m classroom block for Katogo Hope Primary School in Nama Sub County, Mukono district.

The Chinese ambassador, Zhao Yali, commissioned the 40-seater block at a colourful function held at the school’s premises.

The Chinese Government also furnished the classroom with furniture.

Yali said his Government offered to build the classroom after he visited the area last year following a hailstorm and discovered that pupils were studying in makeshift structures.

“We have fulfilled our promise and I hope many children will join the school,” Yali said.

A Chinese businessman Paul Zhang who accompanied the ambassador pledged to pay for the completion of another classroom block at the school.

“I will roof the unfinished classroom block in one month such that the pupils can use it next term,” Zhang said.

Yali said the Chinese Government is proud of partnering with Uganda in implementing development projects.

He said the partnership strengthens the relationship between the two nations.

Yali also observed that Uganda has a lot of potential to develop if its rich natural resource base can fully be tapped.

“China is ready to play a role in supporting Uganda to develop through education, Agriculture and Infrastructure,” Yali said.

He appealed to the district leaders who recently received road equipment through a Chinese Grant to ultilise the units well to improve the road network in the country.

Yali said China was ready to help the districts in servicing the road equipment.

The area MP, the state minister for youth and children, Ronald Kibuule commended China for constructing the classroom and asked the country to extend a hand in the health sector in the constituency.
