A 25-year-old woman has been shot three times in the chest by a Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) operative.

Yakin Kabasita, a mother of two is admitted at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital in Kabarole district. Kabasita is a resident of Mabira village in Nyankwanzi Sub County.

According to eye witnesses, she was shot during an operation by URA on smuggled goods in Kyenjojo.

“She was attending to her shop when an official from URA entered her shop and forcefully tried to grab a box of dry cells,” Deo Gafabusa a father of the victim claimed.

Kabasita was first rushed to Virika hospital but was referred to Buhinga hospital.

URA officials are said to have reported the matter to Kyenjojo police leading to the arrest of Lt Timothy Byabashaija.

Kyenjojo district police commander, Samuel Abed, said an AK47 gun which Byabashaija used has been withheld to aid police in its investigations.

Efforts to get a comment from URA officials were futile.
