It has emerged that the ‘kyeyo’ man who was bound to return to Iraq for work last week after a well-deserved holiday in Kampala was in fact murdered by his own brother.

This is a heart wrenching story of a young man who left the country for greener pastures to better his life; only to be betrayed by his own blood in a senseless act of greed, malice and culminated into murder.

Early this week residents of Sempa Zone, Luwafu, Makindye division and Bbugu, Busaabala were left traumatised when Paul Kalibbala fled a crime scene abandoning the decomposing body of his own brother stuffed in the back seat of his car.

Kalibbala had earlier Monday afternoon, with the help of two muscled men, removed Richard Kavuma’s decomposing body from the latter’s rented house in Makindye to dispose of it in Busabaala but the mission was botched when suspicious residents busted him.

Betrayed by own blood

As investigations took shape police spokesperson Patrick Onyango revealed that when Kavuma returned from Iraq where he had spent a year toiling he had asked his brother Kalibbala to show him the investments he had made with the sh40m he had so far sent him.

“Investigations so far show that Kalibbala murdered his brother because of money he had been sending him for investment that he could not account for,” Onyango said.

He said Kavuma had spent a night at his girlfriend, Lillian Nandudu’s place before he called Kalibbala the following day to take him to Busunjju and where he said he had been putting the money.

According to a police statement Nandudu made at Katwe police, she had last spoken to Kavuma a week ago (last Saturday) and he informed her he was headed to his brother’s place in Luwafu.

They were to go to Busunju to see his investments, but when she called his number on Sunday it was off. It is believed Kalibbala murdered his brother that Saturday night.

It also emerged that before Kavuma left for Iraq he had left Kalibbala sh17m in cash and an ATM card where he would be able to draw money and run his brother’s businesses.

Kavuma's mother, Annet Nambajjwe said her sons had recently called her and informed her he had arrived safely in the country but was yet to see him.

She said her sons were starting a poultry project for which Kavuma was sending money, but was shocked to learn of his death.

The father, Ali Nsereko, who spoke after Kavuma's burial on Thursday said his son was a humble man who got along well with people especially his siblings.

His uncle, Steven Sekamwa, said Kavuma had left his brother an ATM card so he could easily withdraw money to run things as instructed. However when the brother returned he discovered sh17m was missing from the account and unaccounted for.

This could have been the genesis of events that culminated into the senseless murder of Kavuma.

Richard Kavuma was laid to rest at his parents home in Ndese village, Mukono district.

Police menwhile are still hunting for Kalibbala and his accomplices, and also the owner of the vehicle, registration number UAG 539W which Kalibbala was using to transport his brother’s body.
