Government launches national sports development plan

GERMAN technical expert to Uganda, Gunter Lange will travel with the team set to visit various sports facilities in the European nation

IN an effort to improve the sports sector across the country, government has launched a National Sports Development Plan (NSDP).

The plan was launched at the German Ambassador, Klaus Dieter Duexmann’s residence at Kololo on Wednesday with a call to the parties involved to support the initiative.

Launching the plan, Duexmann said Uganda’s sports administrators led by state sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi, sports commissioner Omara Apitta,  National Council of Sports chairman Bosco Onyik and Uganda Olympic Committee president William Blick will be travel to Germany for a one-week study tour that will start on May 20.

German technical expert to Uganda, Gunter Lange will travel with the team set to visit various sports facilities in the European nation. The trip is sponsored by the Germany Embassy.

Duexmann noted that the study is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and to also help Uganda borrow a leaf from the Germany’s organisational structures.

“We are looking at helping Uganda build capacity in sports administration,” said Duexmann. 

Meanwhile, commissioner sports commissioner Omara Apitta handed over the National High Altitude Training Centre to Infrastructure Design (ID) Forum who will draw the architectural plan for the facility.

ID Forum signed a contract last week and will be work with a Thai company Yang Ma Sports Technologies to put in place the plan.

The function took place at Teryet in Kapchorwa district, where the centre, expected to the best in East and Central region, will be located.

ID Forum was represented, at the hand over, by officials Jasper Komukama and Josephine Nalubega.

Political leaders in Kapchorwa were also represented.
