President Yoweri Museveni has said that NRM is a big Party that has 9 million members in almost 60,000 branches countrywide.

President Yoweri Museveni has said that NRM is a big Party that has 9 million members in almost 60,000 branches countrywide and assured supporters that with the new team at the Party Secretariat, NRM will grow from strength to strength.


“The Party was like a big garden that you don’t care for. The new team will be in the office permanently to ensure that the Party grows from strength to strength,” he said.

The President made the remarks while officiating at the thanksgiving ceremony for the appointment of the new National Resistance Movement Team, led by the new Secretary General, Justine Kisule Lumumba.

Other members of the new NRM team that were appointed by the NRM National Chairman and approved by the Executive Organs of the Party include, Richard Todwong as Assistant Secretary General, Rose Namayanja, Treasurer, Dr. Kenneth Omona as Deputy Treasurer, Professor Tanga Odoi, Chairman NRM Electoral Commission and Jane Alimisera and John Kigyagi.

The colorful ceremony that took place at Bugiri district headquarters, was preceded by a thanksgiving mass led by Rev. Fr. Balikudembe Waiswa assisted by Rev. Fr. Kayaga and also attended by, among others, the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga and her deputy, Jacob Oulanya, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, NRM representatives from all districts in Uganda, cultural as re well as religious leaders.

Others present included the Leader of the Opposition, Wafula Oguttu and the LC 5 Chairperson of Kamuli, Salam Musumba. The ceremony was also characterized by a lot of entertainment and dancing by invited guests.

The President who is also the National Chairman of NRM introduced the new office bearers to the huge gathering. He called on all Ugandans, especially the youth, to embrace the operation ‘wealth creation’ overseen by Army Officers whom he introduced and are in charge of the region. The Army Officers include Lt. Col. Dhamuzungu, Captain Gerald Andega, Major Paul Kisambira and Captain Musa Katende.

The new Secretary General Justine Kisule Lumumba thanked God for the gift of life and His unending mercies. She also thanked God for the visionary leader, President Yoweri Museveni, who has turned round Uganda from a failed state to a flourishing democracy that the people of Uganda are today witnessing.

She pledged to deliver as manifested in the recent Busia district LC5 by-elections that saw the NRM flag bearer, Stephen Oundo Wanyama, win overwhelmingly.

The Chairman of the thanksgiving Organizing Committee, Major General Kahinda Otafiire, thanked all supporters and well-wishers of NRM for turning up in big numbers to grace the ceremony. He asked the new NRM team to ensure that they deliver in the 2016 National General Elections. He also called on Ugandans to solidly rally behind NRM and President Museveni because wananchi still have a lot to learn from the General.

“This is not the time to change the Captain of the ship,” he stressed.

Rev. Fr. Balikudembe, in his sermon, said NRM has chosen Justine Kisule and her team to be fishers of the people just like Jesus who chose his disciples to be fishers of men.

He urged Ugandans to live by the motto of the country ‘For God and My Country’.

Later President Museveni joined the new NRM team in cutting the cake made in a shape of a yellow bus.
