ULTA elections

INCUMBENT chairman Cedric Babu and newcomer Arthur Ssegawa are the only ones who have shown interest in the Uganda Lawn Tennis Association’s (ULTA) top job.

Elections for the tennis body are set for this Saturday at Kampala Club.

Babu however said yesterday that he can’t rule out more aspirants especially in an election where candidates are declared on the floor.

This is one of those rare occasions where contestants emerge for ULTA’s top post, where in most cases; there has been a smooth transition. The returning officer for the weekend process is however yet to be named.

Ssegawa, who represents Lugogo’s Centre Court Club, has promised to turn around what he describes as an inactive association.

He wants more attention paid to players whom he insists, are the most important stakeholders.

He has also promised better working relations with National Council of Sports and world tennis governing body, ITF.

Babu on his part says he will team up with the education and sports ministry and the German Government to roll out a nationwide primary school programme.
