Uganda Sand Cranes team captain Derrick Teko sees a bright future for the side after a successful trip to Zanzibar last week.

Uganda came from behind to beat the hosts 5-4 with a brace by Brian Nkuubi while Baker Lukooya, Roch Somoka and Teko added a goal each.

It was the beach soccer team’s first international trip since its formation three years ago.

Teko said if the team is handled well, it can go places.

Talking about the Zanzibar trip, Teko said after the team’s return on Wednesday “When you look at how Zanzibar play, you admire their agility. But I am wondering why they were so defensive against us.”

Teko added, “I am happy we got international experience that should boost our confidence before we go to Seychelles.”

Uganda will be in the country for the Africa Nations Cup finals in April.

The tournament will serve as a qualifier for the World Cup finals set for Portugal in September next year.
Pepsi sponsored the Sand Cranes’ trip to Zanzibar.
