Various personalities from Buganda Kingdom, including the former Vice-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, are to compile different research works about the kingdom into one historical reference book for purposes of recording the past glory of Buganda.

The book titled: Buganda Doing Extra Ordinary Things Before and After Independence will cover the theme of Revamping and strengthening Omwoyo Gwa Buganda Ogutaffa.true

The exercise is expected to cost over sh200m.

The book will also cover all the Baganda who have done extra-ordinary things that have greatly impacted on society and the kingdom.

Bukenya, who is also the advisor of the committee carrying out the research, said rewriting and putting together the history of the kingdom will serve as a mirror to the community in Buganda and Uganda as a whole.

Launching the exercise at Uganda Museum in Kampala yesterday, Bukenya said: “The book shall tell us, our children and grandchildren the journey of the kingdom and determine where it is going.”

He noted that it was high time people considered the past and present so as to have a better view of the future of the kingdom.

Bukenya said there is a lot of information about the kingdom that has not been written about, hence the need to collect it into a book.

The book will also detail the past Buganda kings, the 53 clans, theatre and art, trade and industry, religion and new innovations, among others.

One of the committee members, Winfred Nakkazi, said the book is not only meant for academia, but also the general population.
