Cabinet has approved the establishment of a new specialized hospital to handle complicated medical cases that cannot be treated in Uganda currently.

The Uganda International Specialized Hospital will offer specialized medical care for cases such as heart and brain surgery and conduct organ transplants.

Information and national guidance minister, Rose Namayanja revealed at a press briefing on Thursday that the hospital would be located in Lubowa, along Entebbe Road and plans to start construction were underway.

“Cabinet has approved the establishment of the Uganda International Specialized Hospital to reduce mortality attributed to non-communicable diseases,” Namayanja said at a press briefing.

The minister said the facility would also house an International specialized Cancer Centre for management of rising cancer cases.
