Uganda Golf Club members are set to contribute to another humanitarian course when they participate in the ‘Rotary on the green’ tournament due November 28 at Kitante.

The one-day fundraising tournament is expected to raise close to sh24m towards the construction of the Rotary hospital in Ngandu, Mukono district.

Addressing the press at Kitante during the launch of the second edition of the tournament, Rotary Club of Kampala president David Kasingwire said the tournament is aimed at raising funds from their different partners and friends to carry out humanitarian services.

“We are working on the first phase of the hospital which will be an out patients department which will cost sh600m; the Rotary Club of Kampala members have raised sh200m and we expect to get the rest (sh400m) from partners like the golfers and others,” Kasingwire stated.

Mukono district with a population of about 600,000 people is one of Uganda’s fastest growing urban centres but has no fully fledged hospital and is only served by 3 Health Centre 1V’s, 15 Health Centre 3’s and 23 Health Centre 2’s.

Immediate past president Einid Nambuya said the project envisages a fully-fledged hospital with an operating theater, special and general clinics as well as offices.

She said the whole project will be built in phases and is expected to be completed in 3 years.

“We expect 30 corporate teams to participate in the tournament upon payment of sh500,000 each and individual participants,” Nambuya said.

UGC vice-Captain Dr. Lim Lim said the tournament will be played using the medal format of play.

Uganda Golf Club captain Henry Rugamba said the club and its members were proud to be associated with this noble initiative.

“Our members travel along the Kampala-Jinja highway many times a year to participate in tournaments in Jinja and Lugazi, the thought that we will have world class medical facilities along the way is very reassuring. It may be recalled we have lost a number of our members to accidents along this road so this is atimely and important initiative we have no hesitation to support,” Rugamba stated.

The Rotary Club of Kampala is involved in many other humanitarian projects in the areas of health, hunger and water across the country.
