Pastor Martson Daniel Matte has been appointed the Archbishop of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda. He becomes the sixth archbishop of the Church in Uganda.

Matte, 47, replaces Pr. Dr. John D Kakembo who goes into retirement. Kakembo has served as the archbishop since August, 2009.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church working policy recommends that any Church worker who attains 65 years of age or 40 years of service in ministry is free to retire from active service.

“Pr. Kakembo has satisfactorily fulfilled the two requirements and requested to retire from active ministry effective January 1, 2015,” communication director Pr. Samuel Mwebaza said.

Matte has been serving as the Executive Secretary under the headship of Pr. Kakembo. Pr. Dr. Israel Kafeero is the new Executive secretary.

Pr. Matte has served as a district (parish) leader in several places in the western region. He was the Bishop of Rwenzori Diocese a position he held for seven years.
