FUBA Finals: It's all square

Back and forth, up and down. The 2012 FUBA men’s top division and women’s Finals are progressing like a boxing bout between two wise old fighters.

Every action has only elicited an equal and opposite reaction and that is why going into today’s Game 5 at the MTN Arena, the Kyambogo Warriors and Falcons are level at 2-2 and so are the UCU Canons and KCCA Leopards.

Where both Finals go from here, it’s hard to tell. Let’s just say, a Game 7 is beginning to look like the final destination.

Wednesday at the MTN Arena, Norman Blick dropped a game-high 26 points to lead the Warriors to a 78-70 over the Falcons in Game 3 of the men’s finals. Norman was relentless, playing nothing like the unmotivated, mentally-retired star that many have claimed he is.

Sam Gombya, 10 points and 17 rebounds, came with the kind of energy that observers have always longed to see from Uganda’s sole seven-footer. Michael Karuiki scored 14 for Kyambogo, who led by 10 points in the fourth period but saw the Falcons cut it to 70-69 with 1:35 to play.

Steven Omony, Phillip Amweny and Abraham Ramadan scored 19, 15 and 12 points respectively for the Falcons, who lit up the Arena with a fourth-quarter blitz that threatened to sink Kyambogo. But the Falcons, who missed 15 free throws, failed to take the extra step and the Warriors slipped away.true

Meanwhile, Flavia Okecho (pictured drilled home a game-high 19 points in another epic display as KCCA defeated UCU 53-50 to level the women’s Finals. Sarah Nassuna added 10 and Martha Soigi also made 10 along with 12 rebounds.

Purity Odhiambo, 17 points and 10 rebounds, was the only Canon in double figures and if UCU were not taking the Leopards seriously, now they will.
