After misfiring in the Uganda Open and the KCB Golf tour in Mombasa recently, professional golfer Fred Wanzala will seek to make amends in the 17th edition of the sh10m annual JBG Open due at Entebbe Club October 2-4.

Wanzala who claimed the biggest share of the cash prize from last year’s event leads twenty professionals including Rwanda’s Emmanuel Ruterana and Ernest Ndayisenga together with Kenya’s David Odhiambo in the hunt for the cash over two day of action starting today.

Addressing a press conference during the launch at JBG offices in Kololo, Entebbe Club secretary Twinemanzi Tumubweinee said over 200 golfers are expected in this year’s edition that is going to be played over four days.

The professional are in the fray on Thursday and Friday while those vying for the newly introduced gross prize category (handicap 0-5) will be in action on Friday and Saturday, alongside the subsidiary event contestants who play for one day (Saturday).

“Entebbe Club has enjoyed a long relationship with JBG and we are lucky to have such a committed sponsor over the years,” Twinemanzi said.

“We are much honoured to sponsor this event for the 17th time because of the good relationship we have had with the management of Entebbe Club. It is the best run club in the country and we are honored to sponsor them because it provides value for our money,” managing director Emmanuel Mugamba stated.

“We would like to encourage more people to join the game as next year we intend to go regional and we shall also introduce a senior’s category for golfers who are over 55 years,”

Last year Entebbe Club Hole No. 1 was renamed after the chairman of the sponsors, Helmunt P. Gauff in recognition for the sixteen years sponsorship to the club.

JBG also bought a brand new gang mower for the club in addition to two golf carts.
