The Rak Tie break tennis championship will incorporate doubles games starting next year after the successful completion of the inaugural edition at Lugogo on Saturday.


Kenyan players Ismael Changawa and Shufaa Changawa won the men’s and women’s singles respectively to bag sh2.5m each in the inaugural edition.

During a dinner at Nawab Restaurant, Kampala, the tournament sponsors affirmed their commitment to what is going to become an annual event.

“As the main sponsors of the event, we have decided that it will be run every year,” Rak Ceramics director Alirazi Ladiwala stated.

“We also expect to increase the prize money in the next edition,’’ he disclosed, adding that the mixed and singles doubles will be introduced at next year’s edition.

Meanwhile, Rak Ceramics donated tiles worth sh800,000 to Uganda Tennis Association to help them in the renovation of their office at the Lugogo Tennis Complex.
