Bad Black granted sh100m cash bail

COURT of Appeal has granted Shanitah Namuyimbwa aka Bad Black sh100m cash bail and her five sureties ordered to pay sh10m non-cash bond.

Justice Mary Stellah Arach Amoko gave out tough measures to follow before Namuyimbwa walks to freedom.

The registrar of the Supreme Court, Erias Kisawuzi read out the bail conditions in a fully packed registrar’s office at Twed, Building in Kampala on Friday.  

Black accompanied by her mother and local musician, Halima Namukula wept as the registrar read out the bail conditions.  Among her five sureties included Namakula.

However, Bad Black was still being held at court till she clears all the modalities of bail application. In her application through her lawyers, Timothy Kakembo and Henry Kisaalu for the bail, Namuyimbwa claimed that her breasts and caesarean scar were rotting away.

She said that she needed urgent medical attention that would be got only when she is out of prison.

This is the second appeal for bail. The first one was dismissed because Justice Arach was previously not satisfied with the medical report from Dr. Joseph Andama of Luzira prison who later referred her to Mulago hospital.    

Arach granted bail on grounds that Namuyimbwa’s health was in danger due to in-plants in her breasts which had to be removed and this would not be done locally in Uganda.

Earlier state prosecutor, Fred Kakooza had argued that if granted bail, Bad Black might flee out of the country. She was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for stealing over sh11b from Daveshan, a company she co-owned with ex-lover, Greenhalgh David.
