Golf: Onito, Byamukama start Uganda Open richer

Professional golfers Simon Ngige, Opio Onito, Byamukama Vincent and Richard Ainley teed off the Uganda open with some cash in their pockets after excelling in the Pro-AM event that kick started this year’s action.

Professional golfers Simon Ngige, Opio Onito, Byamukama Vincent and Richard Ainley teed off the Uganda open with some cash in their pockets after excelling in the Pro-AM event that kick started this year’s action.

Ngige pocketed sh1m, Onito sh700,000, Byamukama sh500,000 with Ainley getting sh300,000 in the one day action that had professionals playing alongside the amateurs. The top two scores for the amateurs counted on the overall scores.

Kenya’s Ngige shot 73 gross to inspire team Guinness 5 that comprised of Phillip Kasozi (75nett), Gloria Asiimwe (73nett) and Robert Asiimwe to the top position of the Pro-AM event that attracted 145 golfers.

KK Security team that had Opio Onito (75 gross), Arthur Tumwesigye (75nett), Michael Mwine (73nett) and Michael Odur (86nett) were second while Case Medical team of Vincent Byamukama (74gross), John Katto (89nett), Katy Kabenge (79nett) and Francis Ngabo (74nett) finished third overall.

Minister for the presidency Frank Tumwebaze presided over the prize ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel during a cocktail that also acted as the welcoming function for the visiting golfers.
