Relax, we are told when we feel tensed up. What you probably do not know is that making the decision to relax may have protected you from getting different types of cancers and added years to your life.

Researchers at Purdue University (US) tracked 1,600 men over a 12-year study period. Before the study period ended, a total of 34% of neurotic men in the study group had caught different types of cancer and died before the end of the study period.

According to an online article published by Men’s Health magazine  Daniel Mroczek, the psychologist who conducted the study, explained that men who qualify as neurotic, are “the biggest worriers…who stress out over everything. That man is probably above the 95th percentile in neuroticism.”

Half of the men who suffered increasing levels of worry died during the study period, while only 20% of the more optimistic and, therefore, relaxed men died during the study period.

According to Mroczek, an optimistic man is “the most cool, calm, collected man you know. He is probably below the fifth percentile.” Keeping in mind that October is cancer month, try to relax a bit despite the challenges and worries that are part of your life. It just might keep cancer at bay.
