Derrick Katongole aka Lyto Boss who sang Mukyaro, Lwobuze and Nyota is soon releasing a new video called Ekitengejja. For the past five years, he has been both a musician and a song writer. New Vision's
Glorias Musiime was at the shooting location.

What or who is behind this song Ekitengejja?

I just sang it for the people in real love – this means I will love you like weed on top of the waters. And that’s why my shooting location is a beach. It was the idea of the script writer, and rightly so, because the song mainly talks about love on water. I chose this particular point myself so that both the song and location shared a rich sense of relevance.

Who wrote the script?

It’s the video director called Frank Jah of Jah Live. He is the best creative guy in script writing and video directing in the country.

[To Frank] Most people know you as Frank Jah, is that your real name?

I am Frank Mugerwa but I use Frank Jah for business purposes. I own Jah Live, a company that does filming, video directing, documentaries, and much more.

[Back to Lyto Boss] You start off in a sleeveless shirt and sandals . . .

Well, it’s a leisure song and because am at the beach, I would not want to dress like am going to a dinner party. Wait and see, am going to change later after this shot.

There is a couple in a boat nearby. Are they just enjoying your song, or?

Well, they are a part of my song. They are playing lovers as sing solo. They are acting my story. It’s the script writer who decided to have them only two and in a boat – just like lovers would ideally.

[To Frank] What’s with the choice of a boat?

It’s all about being creative. I thought of that just to bring out the meaning and the relevance of the song.

[To Frank] You are the best director and most of the songs you have directed are nicely shot.  How do you do it?

It’s a matter of time.  I listen to the song and come up with the best video. It’s about creativity.

Meanwhile, Lyto Boss changes into different attire but still in the same venue. He says since he is now out of the water, he needs to show another side of the story. “The shots just can’t be one-sided,” he says.

He goes on reveal that Brans dressed him as well as did the make-up. On what challenge he face on shooting day, he admitted: “It has been so expensive in renting lights, among others.”

So does he pay his characters, I ask him.

“Of course I do pay them – as long as they are the right people I need in my video.”
