The Law development center (LDC) is set to establish regional law practice study centers across the country to help decongest the center in Kampala.

According to the executive director LDC Frank Nigel Othembi, the center had drafted a cabinet paper which is currently being studied, to create an increase in the number of students admitted by LDC.

“A draft paper has been presented to cabinet to streamline intake of students, we want to double the numbers of students we can take on board,” said Othembi.

Othembi who was yesterday addressing a group of MPs on legal and Parliamentary affairs committee at the LDC said, so far three regions such as the East, west and North had been identified as host regions for the law centers.

However the MPs who were touring the under construction LDC main auditorium building tasked the LDC management to work on what they called the tainted image of the center to improve its rankings.

“You need to do something about your public image; People are looking at LDC as a place where you go to fail. People are now going to study their practice in Kenya, Rwanda, just because you make them fail,” said Alex Byarugaba (Isingiro South).

The MPs led by the committee Vice chairperson Bakka Mugabi, also backed the center’s proposal to extend to other parts of the country saying it would help reduce on the congestion and the main center.

Meanwhile, the center is seeking Sh 1b, to finish the LDC auditorium for conference facilities among other facilities for the center.

The center is also in need of Sh 790m to compensate encroachers on the over 50 decimals center’s land.
