Gabula new Busoga Kyabazinga

Prince William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV is the new Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom for the next five years.

Prince William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV is the new Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom for the next five years.


Gabula was appointed by the 10 hereditary chiefs during a Royal Chiefs Council held at The Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga headquarters at Bugembe in Jinja district.

The royal council chaired by Chief Juma Munulo the Luba of Bunyha County in Mayuge district immediately read resolutions they reached at in the meeting to Journalists.

“The Chiefs Royal Council moved a motion to make a follow up on the suspension of article 6 and the preamble of article 8 of Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga Constitution and there upon the Busoga Chiefs Royal Council resolved that it has the powers to go ahead with the election of The Isebantu Kyabazinga and appointing a Cabinet for Busoga Kingdom inspite of the suspension of the said articles,” Munulo said while reading the resolutions.

He said “The above notwithstanding the constitutional review process shall go ahead and in the meantime the elected Isebantu Kyabazinga shall hold the office for 5 years, pending the review of the Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga Constitution.”

The Ten Royal Chiefs further resolved that election of the Isebantu Kyabazinga be conducted on Saturday and in the ensuing election, His Royal Highness William Wilberforce Gabula IV of Bugabula Chiefdom was elected Isebantu Kyabazinga unopposed with immediate effect.

The resolutions were signed by the Ten Royal Chiefs who included Daudi Kawunhe the Isabalangira of Busoga and Wakhooli of Bukhooli, Willngtone Nabwana the Tabingwa of Luuka Chiefdom, Yokania Isiko the Kisiki of Busiki, William Wilberforce Nadiope the Gabula of Bugabula Chiefdom and Haji Juma Munulo the Luba of Bunyha.

Others included Samuel Nkuutu Zirabamuzale the Menha of Bugweri, John Ntale the Nanhumba of Bunhole, Caretaker Samuel Kamaga the Nkono of Bukhono, Patrick Izimba Gologolo the Ngobi of Kigulu and Yasin Waguma Ntembe the Ntembe of Butembe Chiefdom.

Prince Edward Columbus Wambuzi who has been one of the contenders of the throne did not attend the Royal Chiefs Council meeting held at Bugembe.

However Prince Gabula also wrote an acceptance letter to the Isabalangira of Busoga and acting Kyabazinga David Kawunhe Wakholi accepting his appointment as Kyabazinga of Busoga and to commence his duties as at August 23rd.  He copied it to all the 11 hereditary Chiefs of Busoga.

The Isabalangira, Kawunhe, later announced Prince Gabula’s appointment as Kyabazinga to the Basoga who had gathered at the Kingdom headquarters adding that Gabula is to be introduced to the Busoga Lukiiko (Parliament) today (Monday).
