UGANDA Management Institute (UMI) director programmes and students affairs has been summoned to appear in court over causing financial loss of sh349m.
The Anti-Corruption Court Grade One Magistrate Susanne Okeny on Thursday summoned Saturninus Kasozi Mulindwa to appear in court on September 11 to answer charges of causing financial loss of sh349,285,513.
It is alleged that Kasozi and Deo Lukonji in August, 2009 at the Uganda Management Institute while employed as director of finance and administration and director programmes and students affairs, obtained sh61,484,935 claiming it to be retrospective payment in respect of monetised car benefit for a period of thirty one months yet he knew this act would cause financial loss to the institute.
Lukonji, the director of finance and administration appeared in court before Chief Magistrate Sarah Langa Siu on July17 and denied the charges.
Prosecution led by State Attorney David Bisamunyu said Kasozi in July 2009 at Uganda Management Institute in Kampala while employed as director programmes and student affairs obtained sh21,817,235 claiming that it was for retrospective payment for car benefit.
Prosecution also accused Lukonji of obtaining another sh95,583,343 claiming it to be for car maintenance as well as monthly allowances and yet he knew that this would cause financial loss to the institute.
Kasozi is accused of obtaining another double payment of sh100,400,000 between July 2009 and January 2012 claiming it was for monthly allowances and car maintenance yet he knew this would cause financial loss to the institute.
Salim Wasswa, the lawyer representing Kasozi said he is sick and could not appear in court.
The two directors have been working at the Institute for over ten years. They started as junior lecturers before they were promoted to senior positions respectively.
