PROFFESOR Lilian Tibatemwa is one step away, from being re-appointed as the next substantive deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs).

If the Chancellor Prof. Mondo Kagonyera approves the Council’s recommendation, she will in a few days be appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Council Thursday approved the Senate recommendation, which fronted her for re-appointment for the second top administrative job in the university.

This means she will be retaining her job, and will deputise Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu as deputy of academic affairs.

The university publicist Ritah Namisango said that the University Council at its special meeting held received and considered the Senate recommendations on the two positions.

“Guided by the Senate recommendation, the University Council unanimously recommended Professor Lillian Tibatemwa Ekirikubinza to the Chancellor of Makerere University for appointment as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs),” Namisango noted.

The second deputy’s post will remain vacant as the university keeps searching for a replacement.

Council decided not to re-advertise the job, before redefining its holders’ roles.

“The University Council further observed that instead of re-advertising the position, there was need to redefine the role of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration) in order to attract suitable candidates.”

Subsequently, “the University Council decided that since there is an ongoing process to restructure positions and offices in the University,” there is need to wait for the report from the Taskforce on Job Evaluation and Re-organisation of Makerere University, “which will definitely provide guidance.”

The report is expected at the end of this month. In the due course, Council resolved that the current Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration) Professor S.S. Tickodri Togboa will remain in office.
