UK school builds sh100m dormitory for former street children

Students from England’s Chellaston Academy have constructed a building facility for M-Lisada, a 60-strong brass ensemble of former street children.

The classic building at Ave Maria Zone, in Nsambya, has two spacious dormitories, flush-water toilets and a kitchen.
The dormitories are also stuffed with beds and beddings.

The facility was built at a cost of over Ug sh100m , which was all contributed by students from Chellaston Academy, Derby, England.

The inauguration of the building, last week, was attended by a big delegation of students from Chellaston, led by Richard Karran. 

The jovial Karran said the story of M-Lisada children touched the hearts of many Chellaston students, which was why they opted to raise money to build the facility.

“M-Lisada children previously suffered on the city streets due to neglect and poverty. These children nonetheless had the confidence, determination and vision to use their musical talent, to get out of their situation, which is why they established a reputable musical organization. We are happy to establish a filial relationship with M-Lisada, which I am sure, will last forever,” Karran said.

The Director of M-Lisada Organisation, Bosco Ssegawa, said the facility would improve the accommodation of the former street children and also help them to get more abused children from the streets.
During the inauguration ceremony, the M-Lisada kids staged a mini-concert for the Chellaston students, during which they performed brass music and Ugandan traditional dances.
