Brigadier Fred Tolit has been sworn as the new Court Martial chairman, replacing Brigadier Charles Angina.

His appointment to the new post came last month.

Tolit, who has been Defense Attachè at the UN headquarters in New York, took the oath in a Tuesday ceremony held at the Makindye army base court.

Court judge advocate Maj. Augustine Begyendaho presided over the ceremony.

The new chairman was sworn in with other 11 General Court Martial staff including Lt Col. Rebecca Mpagi of the Air Force.

Tolit’s predecessor, Agina had completed his one-year term and now remains an army representative in Parliament.

Angina had replaced Brig. Bernard Rwehururu who was removed before his tenure had expired.

The newly sworn-in chairman said he was grateful for his new appointment and was ready to serve without fear or favor to promote justice.

“Even if it is my relative or friend in the wrong there will be no compromise. I have held the Holy Bible and taken an oath pledging my commitment. I will live by my oath. We have to respect the Constitution and Uganda People’s Defense Act,” he said.

He warned his staff against being compromised, saying that he would not tolerate such behavior.

To start off, he said he will analyze the case files and study the administrative structures of the General Court Martial to come up with better strategies in running the institution in case of any loopholes.
