The First Lady and Karamoja Affairs Minister, Janet Museveni, has urged members of the Mothers’ Union countrywide to promote good parenting as they fulfil their God given responsibility of taking care of their families.

She said many children and youth today behave badly and since any child that misbehaves reflects on the parents, it shows that mothers are missing out on good parenting.

“When God gives you life, it means you have a responsibility to your family and community which you must fulfil,” she emphasized.

Mrs. Janet Museveni was speaking at the closure of the first Mothers’ Union Leaders’ conference for South Ankole Diocese at St. Matthew’s Cathedral Kyamate in Ntungamo district on Wednesday.

The conference was also attended by members of the Mothers’ Unions of West Ankole and Ankole Dioceses from which South Ankole Diocese was curved on January 8, 2012. They officially handed over the Mothers’ Union flag to initiate the South Ankole Diocesan Mothers’ Union.

Mrs. Museveni said parents in the nation are indebted to God to properly look after and bring up God fearing families which will build a strong nation since a nation is a total sum of all families.

She urged the Mothers’ Union never to give up on good parenting and to mobilize other parents to bring up morally upright children.

The First Lady encouraged them to revitalize and inculcate the good old times societal values in the children and put in practice the old adage of the whole community being responsible for the proper upbringing of children so that every mother in a village is accountable.

Mrs. Museveni said Bishop Ahimbisibwe was a God-given choice for South Ankole Diocese and together with his wife will do a very good job in the Diocese.

She advised the Mothers’ Union members to be exemplary and lead others to start income generating activities to improve their livelihoods.

She contributed towards the South Ankole Diocese Mothers’ Union upcoming activities.

Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe said South Ankole Diocese will continue to grow because the mothers and others nursing it are doing a very good job.

He pointed out that Mrs. Museveni is among the best mothers of the Diocese and appreciated the role she plays in the Diocese.

He highlighted a number of achievements of the new Diocese among which is preaching the Gospel of unity and the building of the church house.

The President of South Ankole Diocesan Mothers’ Union Mrs. Lilian Ahimbisibwe said there was need to empower families to eradicate poverty from their households.

She appreciated the facilitators who trained them on stress management, HIV/ AIDs and production in the homes.

South Ankole Diocese Mothers’ Union donated a mirror to Mrs. Museveni, saying she is the mirror of women and urged her to always remember that she is a strong and important person in church and in the country whenever she looks at her reflection in the mirror.

The Presidents of the Mothers’ Union of West Ankole and Ankole Dioceses thanked God for creating women, saying that if there were no women, there would be no world. They also donated funds towards the South Ankole Mothers’ Union activities.
