Mengo should concentrate on development

IT is ridiculous to continue asking for 9000 square miles of land when you cannot trace where it is located, who has the land title and who the current tenant is

LAST week, the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, toured Wakiso District while celebrating 19 years on the throne, since the restoration of kingdoms in 1993.

As the norm; he was joined by his subjects and some Members of Parliament agitating for federo, which they do not understand.

Others think it is diversionary and not attainable as it has a lot of legal implications that will take time to resolve.

But again others, at district level, think their powers will be tamed, therefore Buganda MPs should concentrate on service delivery to the wananchi.

Services such as NAADS, construction of roads, schools, and health centres may revamp Buganda’s glory.

The clamour for ‘ebyaffe’ should be documented and probably Mengo should try to account for what was given to them and to Baganda, so that everybody gets to know what is remaining, otherwise it is ridiculous to continue asking for 9000 square miles of land when you cannot trace where it is located, who has the land title and who the current tenant is?

Ebyaffe has become ‘the apostles creed’ for self-styled aspirants from Buganda who want to be MPs or local council 5 chairpersons.

The former vice-president, seems to have missed the opportunity, when he was supposed to demand for Buganda properties.

He was the minister for presidency, vice-president, and vice chairman NRM Buganda. Isn’t he late or too early for the job? What will the Buganda ‘federo’ be in the region as we are in the fi nal stages of East African Community federation?

The leadership of Buganda should stop meandering and deliver services to the people. Even when the President invited Buganda MPs to give them the money to rehabilitate the Masiro, others said they would not go back to take tea but remain in the corridors of Parliament doing the same.

If they believe in Bwa-Kabaka, let’s work for Uganda, preserve our common goal of unity and prosperity.

Buganda has suffered because of a disunited leadership failing to understand that we are now a republic.
