Marriage is creepy: Jackie will not even consider it

Jul 03, 2012

I am still around like you have said. I am socializing but I have not yet specialized. Every weekend, people are getting married but let me tell you Carol, marriage is mainly for pretenders

Carol Kasujja asked news anchor and radio presenter Jackie Lumbasi why

Q: Mambo Jackie

A: Poa.

There is a common belief that Kenyans are good at drinking Waragi. Do you also drink hard stuff?

I used to but I stopped in 2008 after realizing that I was losing my voice. I would drink and abuse people around me, but it was not worth it. I can’t even remember the last time I went out to party.

You have been around a while. When are you walking down the aisle?

I am still around like you have said. I am socializing but I have not yet specialized. Every weekend, people are getting married but let me tell you Carol, marriage is mainly for pretenders and I am not one. These days, people get married because others are also getting married and they do not want to be left out. I do not believe in marriage. It is creepy.

Does that mean you are not seeing anyone in your life?

There is a boy I have been eyeing for four years but the dude does not seem to be going anywhere.

He is just there. I think I should say I am single and not allergic to men.

How does it feel to have two jobs?

The money is not enough but it feels good. Other than my family, my jobs are my other love.

During Rugby games between Uganda and Kenya, which team do you support?

Uganda. I am Kenyan by birth but Uganda is home. I have been In Uganda for more than 10 years. Can you imagine I am a stranger in Kenya? I can get lost in Nairobi.

Why do you wear wigs while reading News on TV?

News presentation is not showbiz. Most people have not yet accepted dreads. You have to portray a certain image. You have to command attention and seriousness. People have to watch news, not to look at you as a spoilt brat.  Have you ever seen any news anchor with dreads?

You seem to be outgoing and aggressive, mothers union or g-strings?

I would go for g-strings because our dotcom men do not want to see party-liners. But one thing I hate about them, they can make you uncomfortable.
