The mufti, Sheikh Ramathan Mubajje, has warned Muslims against turning burial and funeral ceremonies into platforms for fighting their internal wars. “Muslim factions hurl insults at each other at burial ceremonies. It is a shame.
This has to stop,” he said. Mubajje made the remarks during duwa prayers for the late Halaar Kamur, the Gaso bus company proprietor, in Masaka municipality recently.
The prayers were attended by the vice-president, Edward SsSkandi, who represented President Yoweri Museveni. Mubajje accused the rival Kibuli faction of indiscipline, saying he had received reports that they provoke the Uganda Muslim supreme council officials during public functions.
He blamed the police for not taking action against the people who abuse and beat other Muslims during functions. “i witnessed an old man being beaten at a burial ceremony in Kidda near Masaka town. The Masaka district kadhi, Sheikh Huzairu Kiruta, was also beaten and the police did not apprehend the culprits,” mubajje said.
He advised imams and sheikhs to preach unity among Muslims. He encouraged aggrieved Muslim factions to follow proper procedures to remove leaders from office. “Those who boycotted the elections shall be ignored.
The elected leaders are the one’s going to implement the Uganda Muslim supreme council programmes,” Mubajje noted.
He asked the president to support kamur’s family.
