A-level exams out: History, Economic best subjects

Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) Tuesday released Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education results for 2011.

History and Economics were the best performed subjects, according to the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education results for 2011 released Tuesday.

The examinations released by eth Education minister Jessica Alupo show that performance in Physics and Chemistry is comparable between male and female candidates.

Female candidates’ performance is at par with the male candidates at two principal passes and above.

Two principal passes level is the minimum pass level for admission to a tertiary institution.

Female candidates have a slightly lower failure rate than male; 0.6 percent compared to 0.9 percent, the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) secretary (UNEB) Mathew Bukenya said.

A total of 103, 760 candidates registered for the examination from 1,334 centres compared to 101,495 candidates from 1,240 centres in 2010; an increase of 2,265 or 2.2%.

Male candidates performed better in History, Economics and Art while female candidates performed better in Entrepreneurship Education, Islamic Religion Education, Christian Religious Education, Geography, Literature in English and Biology.

Over 100 candidates have had their results withheld for further investigations linked to malpractice.  The affected Schools are; St Theresa Girls SS Bwanda, Najjembe Homeland SS Lugazi, Mariam High School Kampala, St John’s College Mpigi ans Brethren Memorial, Matugga.
