A total of 717 students graduated from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) during the 18th graduation ceremony on Saturday.

A total of 423 male and 294 female students got diplomas, degrees and masters in various academic disciplines.

Four students; Casim Umba Tolo, Adrian Mwesigye Rwekaza, Rogers Bariyo and Paul Adiukwu Chukweumeka were awarded doctorates in various fields.

The university chancellor, Prof. Peter Ndimdirwe Mugyenyi, said the university had registered more than 200% increase in the number of students graduating since 1995.

The university’s vice-chancellor, Prof. Frederick Kayanja, decried the increasing rate of staff turn-over and called for measures to address the issue.

‘‘MUST has become a ground for other organisations to recruit staff. The impact is that our investment in staff development is being challenged. We have to keep these human traffickers at bay,’’ Kayanja said.

He encouraged the graduates to work hard and exercise discipline in their careers.
