THE Italian Cooperation has given Gulu Hospital sh950m to renovate the maternity ward, construct a new theatre and purchase a modern x-ray machine.

According to the medical superintendent, Dr. Yoventino Agel Akii, the renovation will assist in handling the increasing number of patients.

Akii was briefing the deputy resident district commissioner, Milton Odongo, and the new district Police commander, John Peter Ematu, during their tour of the newly-renovated wards and medical stores on Wednesday.

He said the Government had also given the hospital sh1.8b for renovation and to build a new medical store and housing units for staff.

Odongo urged the health workers to be patriotic and avoid being rude to patients.

“To be patriotic means you must not steal drugs, not promote cooks and cleaners to pharmacists,” Odongo told the nurses.

He warned male medical workers against sexually assaulting their female counterparts.

The deputy RDC also cautioned the health workers against dodging night duty and being indisciplined.
