THE Forum for Democratic Change electoral commissioner has filed an injunction to restrain commissioners of the Electoral Commission (EC) from carrying out their duties.

Dan Mugarura wants the Constitutional Court to stop the commissioners from conducting the duties of the EC, pending the disposal of another petition in which the FDC is challenging the validity and composition of the Electoral Commission.

“The pending petition will be rendered useless if the commissioners are allowed to continue executing functions of the Electoral Commission,” Mugarura’s affidavit reads.

He also wants the commissioners barred from conducting byelections for Budiope county and Mbale Municipality.

The earlier injunction seeks to bar the EC chairman, Badru Kiggundu and commissioners Joseph Biribonwa, Tom Buruku, Jenny Okello, Stephen Ongaria, Justine Mugabi and Tomasi Sisye Kiryapawo from executing their duties.

Mugarura is also challenging the appointment of the seven commissioners and their approval by Parliament.

The Constitutional Court is yet to make a ruling on the matter.
