THE agriculture state minister, Aggrey Bagiire, on Friday ordered the arrest of the director of Shepherds Construction Services for delaying the completion of the construction of Keri Market in Koboko district.

Nicholas Masete was picked up by policemen and whisked to Koboko central Police station after he failed to give a satisfactory explanation as to why his company had delayed the market that was supposed to be commissioned in 2005.

Masete had reportedly gone into hiding after learning of the minister’s presence.

The market was one of the 22 that were to be constructed in West Nile under the Northwest Smallholder Agricultural Development.

Bagiire said the Government has since 2005 been seeking extension of the project because of errant the contractor.

“Every time we ask for an extension, we pay an extra penalty. Now we have until February 28 to close the project or else the money will be taken back and will have to repay it in full,” Bagiire said.
