Sheikh Zubair Kayongo has urged Muslims to contest for political posts in the forthcoming general elections, or else they let down Islam.

Kayongo advised muslims to stand for any available post right from LC1 to the President, saying it is important for them to get political power.

“You should not stop at being mere supporters. At least try and fail because there is nothing more important than power,” Kayongo said.

He was officiating at a Duwa prayer that was hosted by the acting district Khadhi, Sheikh Ibrahim Mugalu, at Katikamu in Luweero district.

Kayongo, who was accompanied by officials from his Kibuli-based break-away faction, also cautioned Muslims against mixing politics with leadership.

He criticised parliament for “wasting time and public resources” debating the controversial homosexuality bill.

He argued that they should have thrown it out right away for the sexual behaviour is ungodly.

He warned that foreign assistance should only be accepted after a careful study of the terms so that socially unacceptable western vices, like homosexuality, are not imposed on Uganda.

Also present were the Democratic Party president general, John Sebaana Kizito, Forum for Democratic Change’s Sam Njuba, the Luweero district chairman, Ronald Ndawula, as well as Uganda’s ambassador to Iran, Ahmed Kisuule.
