OLYMPIAN Ronald Serugo’s dreams of attaining a university degree could be shattered.
The Kyambogo University student, who applied for two ‘dead years’ to represent Uganda on the international boxing scene, lacks tuition to complete the second year of his Industrial Art and Design course.
The light flyweight was Uganda’s lone boxer at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and World Championships in Milan last year.
Failure to pay sh1.1m for his second semester will have him discontinued.
His appeal to National Council of Sports and the university for assistance yielded no positive results.
“My parents are peasants. I had thought that by sacrificing for this country, things would become easier,†said a distraught Serugo.
Assistant sports commissioner Omara Apita advised the boxer to make a formal application to the ministry.
