THE Police in Mbarara have arrested five men suspected to be cattle thieves who have been terrorising the district.

The district Police commander, Vincent Irama, identified the suspects as Julius Beingana, Francis Mugizi, Robert Mpirwe, Fredrick Byensi and Naboth Kasozi.

According to the Police, the thugs used to steal animals from Mbarara and sell them in Bushenyi district for slaughter.

Irama said Beingana, a Mbarara-based dealer, is suspected to sell the animals to the other four, who all are residents of Bushenyi.

He added that the five were arrested by the Police in Kashaka on Monday night with five stolen cows.

The stolen cows were found in Mpirwe’s kraal, following a tip-off by people who got suspicious about the cows.
