President returns from visit to Brazil

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni yesterday returned home after a working visit to Brazil. Museveni held talks with the Brazilian leader, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, on the strengthening of bilateral relations between Brazil and Uganda.

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni yesterday returned home after a working visit to Brazil. Museveni held talks with the Brazilian leader, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, on the strengthening of bilateral relations between Brazil and Uganda, according to statement issued from State House yesterday.

The President also addressed the 5th World Urban Forum Summit, as a guest of the United Nations Habitat executive director, Dr. Anne Tibaijuka.

Museveni also held a meeting with the President of the Rockfeller Foundation, Dr. Judith Robin, at Hotel Intercontinental. The foundation supports the education, agriculture and health sectors in Uganda.

The State House statement quoted Dr. Robin as saying in the last 10 years, the NGO, spent $23m on the advancement of innovation and research at Makerere University.

Museveni thanked her for the support and said Uganda wanted a confluence of African and Western scientific advancement to add value to agricultural products by processing them for the international market.

The President also briefed Robin on the advancements made in the East African Community, like the regional roadmap and common market.

The meeting was attended by Chris Williams of the urban development research agenda in the Great Lakes region and Uganda’s ambassador to the United States, Prof. Perez Kamunanwire.
