MBALE Municipality MP Jack Wamanga-Wamai has said he does not need permission from the resident district commissioner (RDC) to visit public institutions within his constituency.

Wamai made the remarks after the deputy RDC, Henry Nalyanya called him on phone as he (Wamai) visited Mbale Hospital in the company of Forum for Democratic Change president Dr. Kizza Besigye to donate wheelchairs.

“I am a Member of Parliament elected by the people of Mbale municipality and, therefore, the RDC cannot stop me from carrying out constituency programmes and implementing what I promised to do,” Wamai said after a verbal exchange with Nalyanya on phone.

“Nalyanya is telling me that I will regret my visit to Mbale Hospital as if the institution belongs to him. I do not need a visa from the RDC to enter a public hospital,” a furious Wamai told journalists.

The hospital superintendent, Dr. Benon Wannume, called for more support, saying most of the wheelchairs received over a year ago had broken down, yet the number of patients who require the service is increasing.
