COCA Cola has offered sh25m to the KCB Pearl of Africa rally organisers with sh3m to support drivers Posiano Lwakataka and Suzan Muwonge.

The rally is scheduled for April 30.

Coca Cola managing director Basil Gadzios unveiled the package in the presence of Federation of Motor Sport Uganda (FMU) as he commended the body of its efforts to build a big fan base.

“We are excited to partner with FMU and we look forward to having an exciting event,” Gadzios said.

FMU President George Kagimu commended Coca Cola for the timely support and appealed for continuous assistance.

The event, starting in Lubiri with a super Special stage, has 223km competitive sections divided into six sub-sections.

The shortest competitive route has 4.4km while the longest section has 16.9 km and the first six sections.

Meanwhile, local competitors have been spared the cost of purchasing HANS devices.

As a safety measure, it is recommended that competitors wear Head and Neck Support (HANS) devices which cost at least $1200 (sh2.4m) per crew but world Motorsport governing body, FIA has waived the requirement in Africa this year.

“For now, it is only those crews registered to score Africa championship points that must wear HANS devices,”MU vice president Kisitu Mayanja stated.

“The period of grace is only one season, next year all competitors in Africa championship events will be required to wear the devices for their own safety.”
