LEADERS in Bududa district plan to meet the district councils where proposed land for the resettlement of the displaced persons is situated.

The Bududa LC5 chairman, Wilson Watira, on Tuesday explained that the district council resolved to meet authorities in Kayunga, Sironko and Buikwe districts to discuss how to get the land.

Watira said the leaders would also inspect the land to ascertain whether it’s adequate for resettlement and ensure the traditional cultures of the local population conform to those of the Bagisu.

“We agreed that these people must be resettled in a safe place. So we are going to look at the nature of the soil on the proposed land, the culture of the local people and the quantity of land. They could allocate a swamp to displaced persons and we would be blamed as district leaders,” Watira said.

Kayunga local government last month offered seven square miles of public land in Kiwuula and Giira parishes in Galilaaya sub-county to resettle the survivors.
In Sironko district, proposals have been made to resettle the displaced persons in Bunambutye sub-county.
Bukwe district was proposed for resettlement due to the near similarity in culture between the displaced Bagisu and the Baganda.
