KYADONDO rugby club is host to the inaugural Coke boys U-14 rugby tournament that starts this morning. It will be a 15 a side contest.
The one-day Coca Cola sponsored event is the first of its kind in the country after the rugby union suspended the 10-a-side version among the juveniles last month.
The six teams to feature include St. Marys College Kisubi, Kyadondo club, Spire Road PS, Jinja schools, Kampala boys and King’s College Budo.
Rugby development manager Ramsey Olinga explained that the tournament is meant to give an opportunity to the U-14 boys that are in schools that do not feature in the schools league.
“We suspended 10 a side rugby in schools and we are on a campaign to promote 15s rugby. This tournament will help in building the basics of 15s rugby in the players at an early age,†Olinga explained.
He also added that this tournament would absorb village and regional U-14 teams in the future. Winners will get a trophies and drinks courtesy of Coca Cola.
